Newport Recreation Department Youth Dances Dress Code Implemented May 2004
Newport City Elementary School and the Newport Recreation Department Youth Dance Dress Code Policy.
While the decision regarding dress and grooming of students is one that should be made at home it is expected that standards of good taste appropriate for school will be maintained.
Students are encouraged to use sound judgment in dress and grooming. Appropriate dress is clothing that covers the body sufficiently so as not to attract excessive attention. Attention-seeking devices or apperarel in dress and grooming are discouraged. Clothing or Jewelry with depicts or suggests: (i) sexually related or obscene gestures, pictures, vulgarity; (ii) graphics or wording which promotes the use/abuse of drugs, alcohol, tobacco or any controlled substance; or, (iii) other graphics and wording that are highly offensive and disruptive to the educational program of the school, may not be worn at school functions or on school property. Clothing that is unsanitary, revealing or indecent to the point that it distracts and interferes with the learning and educational process is prohibited. Clothes shall provide sufficient coverage and to be worn in a manner so as to conceal undergarments at all times. See-through or fishnet fabrics, halter-tops, off-the- shoulder or low-cut tops and bare midriffs are prohibited. For health and safety reasons, appropriate footwear must be worn at all times.
Youth Dances: The determination of what is acceptable attire will be made by the Newport Recreation staff members and chaperones. The parent/guardian will be contacted and the student will not be allowed to return to the Youth Dance until appropriate attire is worn.
The Newport Recreation Department staff will have some extra tee shirts available for any student that attire is not acceptable. For more information please call the Newport Recreation Office at 334-6345.
