NEWPORT PARKS & RECREATION DEPT. REC NEWS WEEK OF APRIL 18, 2008
MOTHER/SON APPRECIATION DANCE- Friday May 9th 7-9pm at the Gateway Center. This is a special dress-up dance and party for boys in Kindergarten thru age 12 to spend an evening with Mom. Tickets will be on sale starting on Friday April 18th at the Newport Recreation Department office and thereafter, between 8am-4pm. There will only be 41 tickets sold to this dance and will be available on first come first serve basis. Tickets will not be sold at the door. There will be dancing, prizes, refreshments and entertainment by DJ Double Trouble. There will also be a photographer taking pictures of the couples for purchase. PRESCHOOL PLAYGROUP CLOSING SOON- Preschool Playgroup is held on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays from 9:30-11:00am in the Municipal Building Gym for Preschool age children and younger who are looking to play, have fun and meet others. Snacks and refreshments are available. This program is sponsored by Building Bright Futures and Newport Recreation Department. Friday April 25 will be the last day of this program until October. Thank you for participating and supporting our program.
RECREATION CENTER CLOSED FOR THE SEASON- The Recreation Center in the Municipal Building Gym is now closed for the Season. Thank you for your support in this activity.
JR OLYMPIC HOOP SHOOT SKILLS COMPETITION- Boys and girls are welcome to come test their skills in this local competition on Sat. April 26th at 1pm in the Municipal Building Gym. Shooting and dribbling skills will be tested and compare to others in your age group.
PROUTY BEACH AND CITY DOCK TO OPEN MAY 2ND- Get ready for another great season of boating, swimming, camping and enjoying the great outdoors in and along beautiful Lake Memphremagog. Boats will be put in by crane May 10th at the City Dock. Campers and tenters are welcome and reservations can be made at the Ticket Booth at Prouty Beach.
SUMMER APPLICATIONS ARE NOW BEING TAKEN- Summer jobs at Prouty Beach, Gardner Park and the City Dock are now being accepted at the Recreation Dept. 2nd Floor of the Municipal Building until May 2nd.

Come visit and play with other preschoolers on Monday,
Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:30-11:00am in the Newport
Municipal Building Gym. Play equipment is available from pedal karts
and slides, to climbing structures, swings and various mats and
wedges. A great winter activity and be able to socialize with
others. Snacks and refreshments are provided by Building Bright
Futures of Orleans County. STRONG LIVING EXERCISE CLASS-Offered to adults who would like to increase flexibility and strengthen muscles that may not be used as often as others. A good chance to meet new folks and feel better. Led by Certified Instructor Brenda Landry, this class is FREE and open to come join us today. Classes will be held on Tues. and Fri. at 3pm at the Meeting Place on Second Street. Call the Recreation Department at 334-6345 for more info.
RECREATION CENTER at the Municipal Building Gym. The following is a listing of the Open Gym Hours and Programs that will be available to Children and Adults. Tues & Wed: 6-8:30pm Open Gym. Fri.: Rotating Schedule of Youth, Teen Dances and Kids Night Out Events that will be posted when they come up, Sat.4-6pm Women’s’ Volleyball League, 6-8pm Open Gym, Sun.: Youth Gym Soccer League for Grades 3-8, 4-6pm-Register today, program starts Nov. 25th. Open Gym 6-8:30pm. Call the Recreation Department for more details at 334-6345. Recreation Center will close for the season April 13th! Thank you for participating!
YOUTH DANCES- Begin Sat. Sept 15th at the Newport Municipal Building. This dance is for 4-6th graders only. The cost is $4.00 per student and the Dance is from 7-9pm. These dances are well chaperoned and fun for all students! Adults who may be able to chaperone any one of the dances are welcome and should contact the Recreation Dept. at 334-6345.
