Prouty Beach Sailing:  Free introductory sailboat rides and individual sailing lessons ($25/two hour lesson) available at Prouty Beach. Drop by if the wind is blowing, or call 334-6345 to set up an appointment. Volunteers welcome: you can swap help with the program for lessons and/or boat use.

Integral Yoga:  Tuesdays 5:30 – 7 PM starting April 1 in the Gateway Center. Classes include gentle postures, breathing exercises, and deep relaxation. The goal is to have an easeful body, a peaceful mind, and a useful life. $50 per month or $8 per class. First class is free! Open to all levels. Instructor: Randy 802-334-8238.
Youth Dances:  Join the Newport Parks & Recreation Department for a series of dances for kids in grades 4-6 at the Newport Municipal Building from 7-9pm.  First dance is scheduled for September 17th. For more details contact Reg Shafe at 334-7951.  Admission is $5/person.  Parents interested in chaperoning should give Reg a call.

Lobster Fest:  Friday August 20th starting at 6pm with a lobster or chicken dinner prepare by the Newport Parks & Recreation Committee, followed by dancing with the Slant Six Band.  At the beautiful Gateway Center in Downtown Newport.  Tickets are $25 for lobster and $15 for chicken (bring your own adult beverages), all proceeds to benefit Newport Parks & Recreation.  Call 334-6345 for tickets.

Summer Movie Nights:  A summer of warm nights and movies at Prouty Beach brought to you by Newport Parks & Recreation.  Join us for an outdoor movie.  Don't forget your lawn chairs!  $2/person.  Showtime August 21, 8pm.  Call 334-6345 for more information.

Volleyball:  The Newport Parks & Recreation Department is seeking teams and individuals to play in their 2010 Adult Co-Ed Volleyball League.  The season will begin on Monday, September 13th with games starting at 6pm.  The Parks & Recreation Department will take up to 16 teams and each team must have 2 females on the court at all times.  Anyone interested or who has any questions, please contact Reg Shafe at the Parks & Recreation Department from 8am to 4:30pm at 334-6345.  

Prouty Beach Open:  Tennis Tournament August 12-15 at Prouty Beach.  Male & female singles and doubles as well as mixed doubles will be offered.  Adult 19-100, 18 & under, 15 & under, 13 & under, and there is also a ball tossing competition.  Prizes for all trophies for the winners.  Call Gary Atchinson to for more information, 334-2645.  Register by August 8th.

City-Wide Tag-Sale & Touch-A-Truck:  Saturday September 4th in Gardner Memorial Park there will be a City-Wide Tag-Sale open to anyone interested in selling all of their gently used belongings.  Spaces are available near the Farmer's Market Stands for only $15/space, first come-first served.  Call 334-6345 to reserve a space.  Plus, the kids can touch-a-truck while your there and see the insides of all those cool trucks that run the roads day in and day out.   

Punt, Pass & Kick:  Girls and boys in five separate age divisions (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15) compete against each other in punting, passing and place kicking in a fun and engaging forum.  The PPK program is free.  This year's competition will take place at Prouty Beach on September 11th at 11am.  No registration is necessary.  Call Newport Parks & Recreation for more details at 334-6345.
