The City of Newport, VT is looking to fill a full-time position in its Public Works Department. This job is classified as construction laborer, equipment operator/truck driver. The ideal candidate should be energetic and possess a working knowledge of road construction, sewer and water lines and be mechanically inclined. A Commercial Drivers License would be a plus. The job consists of strenuous physical labor, working with sewer-water problems, nighttime shifts, on call some weekends during the winter months, snow plowing/removal and long hours. PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
The City of Newport is considering making application to the State of Vermont for an Implementation Grant under the Vermont Community Development Program. A public hearing will be held at 7:00 PM on February 13, 2012 at Newport City Council Room to obtain the views of citizens on community development, to furnish information concerning the amount of funds available and the range of community development activities that may be undertaken under this program, the impact to any historic and archaeological resources that may be affected by the proposed project, and to give affected citizens the opportunity to examine the proposed statement of projected use of these funds. The proposal is to apply for up to $500,000 in VCDP Funds that will be used for fixtures, furniture and equipment associated with the Lago Trattoria and Hotel 1910 expansion project at 95 Main Street, Newport, VT. Police Chief
Newport City, the crown jewel of the Northeast Kingdom, seeks a Chief of Police. The City operates under the Council/Manager form of government. The Police Chief reports to the City Manager and is responsible for directing a full-service police department. The Newport City Police Department provides around-the-clock coverage with 10 full-time certified law enforcement officers and has an annual operating budget of $.9 million.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice preferred, Police Administration, or related field with course work in Management Practices, budgeting and labor relations. Applicants must be or become certified by the Police Standards Training Council. The ideal candidate would have at least 10 years progressively responsible experience in law enforcement and crime prevention, or any combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skill and abilities. This is a full-time salaried position with excellent benefits. Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
